CARIBBEAN EXPORT TO STAGE PROMOTION OF CARIBBEAN FOOD PRODUCTS IN USA (Trade Watch)
Shoppers in the state of Texas will have the opportunity to sample a taste of the Caribbean March 20 to 28 with an in-store promotion of Caribbean food products at the Fiesta Mart Supermarket chain. This promotion, organized by Caribbean Export, will allow customers to taste and sample authentic Caribbean products and experience delicious Caribbean recipes. The objective of the promotion is to increase demand for these items among Texan consumers. This year products from more than a dozen Caribbean food producers will be sampled in 10 Fiesta Mart stores in Houston, Dallas and Austin. Fiesta Mart is a leading retail grocery chain with 34 supermarkets in the Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Austin areas.
The Texan public will get to taste food products from Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Dominica. Cooking classes, conducted by a Caribbean chef, will gave participants a chance to see how Caribbean food is prepared. Fiesta Mart is already retailing a variety of Caribbean, international and local specialty foods and other products. Currently authentic Caribbean products from 19 different companies can be found in the aisles of their stores. This Promotion will introduce twenty-seven (27) products from 6 new Caribbean food exporters and 6 existing food exporters out of Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad and Dominica. A cooking class demonstrating preparation of the Caribbean products will be part of this promotion.
According to Sam Kruiner, Export Business
Advisor at Caribbean Export this promotional activity is based on consumer
demand in Texas. There is an increasing interest in Caribbean food products in
Texas and the US as a whole. “We believe that this in?store promotion of
Caribbean Food Products at Fiesta Mart provides an excellent opportunity for
Caribbean food companies to introduce their products and to expand sales into
the emerging Caribbean food market sector in the state of Texas as well as the
wider ethnic foods market in the United States.” (USAID) Caribbean Trade &
Competitiveness Development Program (C-TRADECOM) is also providing support for
this activity.
